JMW Turner really impresses me. I saw a major Turner Exhibition in 1973 while still at art college. I still think of Turner as a visionary artist.

An artist can be considered a visionary if they are ten or twenty years ahead of their contemporaries. Many people, including myself, would regard Turner as being about 200 years ahead of his.

The major works by Turner often eclipse the vast number of outdoor studies and “Colour Beginnings” that he produced. The Colour Beginnings that Turner produced late in his career were a real eye opener for me. Here are a few Turner studies that are personal favourites.
