The crest of a cloud projects its shadow upwards onto a thin high altitude cloud layer. While a clear understanding of the geometry involved evades me (ie. I can never grasp the concept of the sun being lower than a cloud)....I’ve seen this phenomena often enough now to know that a low sun on the horizon can often cast a cloud shadow upwards
