This color study, which I hope reflects my admiration of English landscape artist JMW Turner, was one of two oil studies for the commissioned work “Discovery Dawn” painted in acknowlegement of JMW Turner and also of the Antarctic explorations of RMS Discovery, now berthed in Dundee.
Transparent oil glazing was built up over a thick high toned underpainting to progressively intensify the depth of color.
