Painted on location on a bright but misty day in the Sidlaw Hills. Low thin clouds with the sunlight breaking through it gave an unusual warmth and luminosity to what was at first glance a dull day. The work started with a pencil drawing followed by an underpainting using the main tones and colours. It was developed later in the studio to refine the image but I didn’t have to change much - I just balanced the colours a bit.
