Some Animals

Baboon

Drawing a Marabou stork.

My model stayed still for longer than I could and afterwards was quite polite.

Drawing animals at Edinburgh Zoo - good practise. There’s no telling how long you’ll have to finish the sketch so unnecessary detail or undue fussing becomes impractical.

This guy was amazing - He mostly sat stock still while I worked with his head either in profile or turned to stare right into me. I’d known most animals give baboons a wide berth but never really realised why untill I saw these teeth. Every now and then he’d stretch over and appear to take a very deliberate look at what I was doing.

OK, maybe not the prettiest bird on the block but it had a nice nature and didn’t try to stab me. Charcoal, black chalk and gouache drawing.                                                               £175

She does catch the dawn sun well even if worms are a bit thin on the ground

Dawn Sketch  6x7ins. Oil on Canvas                                      £70

Strong wind and waves outside today. This is a river?

This thrush has taken to coming quite close while I’m painting at the beach.

There’s a high pressure weather system around just now and I’ve been making the most of it. Windless mornings with brilliant clarity.

“The Dimming of the Day”  20x24ins. Oil on Canvas                  £950

A larger painting worked up from the small study “Sunset and Low Cloud” - below. Click for more info

A big advantage of the lidded palette is that the paint mixed up and used outdoors can be brought home to continue the work later.
