Oil Painting of Sunset - Light for the River

Light for the River    20x30ins     Oil on gesso        Sky Painting                                                     £850

This painting was used to illustrate an article on Oil Glazing I’ve just written for the Summer edition of Artists and Illustrators Magazine

Just recently I’ve worked a lot more on this work again. It fascinates me.

Symbolism associated with light and the sun run through every core belief of our species and make the act of painting these subjects much more than a technical exercise. I love the idea of painting with light and when using oil glazes over a brilliant white underpainting, it almost feels like this is happening.

Painted with a thick bright underpainting to first establish the light within the underpainting, then worked on over several months with impasto and thin transparent glazes to highlight and modify the luminosity. Worked on again after about 6 months and a lot of looking.
