Painted before and during sunrise on an absolutely arctic morning. The whole landscape was bathed in a pure magenta glow from the sunrise behind me, which relected from the thin clouds ahead. As the sun rose, this glow moved down towards the horizon. “Earth House” refers to a prehistoric underground dwelling often found in Scotland, especially in Tayside. This was the basis for a larger painting which can be seen by clicking on the link “By the Earth House” above.
