Painting moonlight is not impossible, but it does present a few problems. One, is, of course, that you can’t see what you’re doing. I painted this when I lived in the Scottish Borders. I sat outdoors, with the living room curtains open, and the light coming over my shoulder. By adjusting your distance from the light you can balance it so that it doesn’t spoil your night vision or obliterate the night sky. If you stick it out as long as this you’re probably daft enough to end up with some kind of painting of the moon.
