Old Larick Beacon - pile lighthouse, Tayport

The  Larick Beacon - 10x11ins  oil on canvas                                                              Sold

This old lighthouse just off Tayport is shown as the Larick Beacon on the Admiralty chart of the Tay . It’s also known as the Pile Lighthouse. It appears to have been built in the early 19th century and closely resembles the temporary barracks built in the North Sea by Stevenson for the men who worked on the Bell Rock lighthouse. It’s a facinating structure, the more so because it can only be seen close up from a boat. A small oil sketch painted in the studio from sketches and photos taken while on board the MVS launch “Badger”.
