The noise of the waterfall is a constant booming roar. It’s a bit cold and damp at the foot of the gorge before the sun comes round in the morning. The waterfalls and the gorge they run through has a tremendous presence, in the way that some places just do. Not many folk come down here. This study was commenced as the sun began to strike the upper falls with the rest in strong shadow and I finished the painting with this moment in mind.
