This sparrowhawk was spotted standing on the pavement with a broken wing in the middle of Dundee and got a lift to the vets last night (after making things difficult by trying to evade rescue by hopping through a railing and falling an extra 20 ft into jaggy brambles behind a high wall). Many thanks to Shanwell Marine Animal Rescue Team who reponded very quickly and more usually deal with dolphins....and no thanks at all to the sparrowhawk who tried to  bite...!!

It got spooked and fell through the railings to land in here (a fine bit of old Dundee that seems to get ever older as you descend down the forgotten slope). Lynn of Shanwell Animal Rescue spots the hawk.

Lynn has just successfully netted the poor bird and is about to cover everything up with a towel to keep it sort of calm. Susan from the Taymara charity goes in to free it from the brambles.

It’s in the box

Gareth and Lynn load it in the van to take it off to the vets. Nice one guys. Here’s hoping.

Probably just less than a 50% chance of surviving, but what a fine animal. Fingers crossed.

Update - The sparrowhawk survived, did NOT have a broken wing and was released into the wiild on the 29th July

YIPPEE !!
