The Hill at Sunrise 18x24ins Oil on Canvas Commissioned Work
As much a painting of the mind as of the physical landscape this was nonetheless a real tree in a real landscape. The dawn sky was one of many spectacular sights I’ve seen in weather where you would normally want to stay indoors. The low clouds twist into wraithlike shapes as the backdrop of high diffuse cloud layer starts to glow in the rising sunlight.
This painting was later bought by my friend John who had a kebab van near Godalming when I moved to Surrey. We agreed on a price that was partly cash and partly a vast number of kebabs. If you ever see this John - Best wishes and I’ve still got 17? to come I think- lest you forget.
